Kamp in Swedish can be translated either ‘battle’, ‘fight’ or ‘struggle’, and in this context it has a bit of all three. “The battle is required” became the title and hashtag (better-sounding in Swedish) for a campaign highlighting historical victories won by the LGBTQ community. The message being that no progressive changes have been made without people going through hardships and struggles. 

 

For some of the image material, I went through the archives of footage collecting dust in the basement of RFSL, depicting Swedish LGBTQ history from the 1970’s until now. I found for example a kiss between two brides which became the campaign's start, celebrating 10 years of marriage rights for same sex couples.
